2002 Census

One of the main sources of demographic and socio-economic statistics in any country is the population and housing census. Uganda has been carrying out scientific population and housing censuses at intervals of about 10 years since 1948. The latest such census which was conducted by the Uganda Bureau of Statistics in Sept 2002, was the most comprehensive census ever undertaken in Uganda. This census collected household-based data on population, housing conditions, agriculture, micro and small enterprises as well as community-based data.

The main report presenting main results based on more detailed information after capturing, editing, verifying and tabulating census data was disseminated in March 2005. In particular, the report presented results on the population distribution and its characteristics, household characteristics, housing characteristics, population growth and selected development indicators.
